Why non-glamorous sports are magnificent

The art-side of my brain has been more active since childhood and I have been lesser inclined towards taking part or even passionately enjoying sports. But everyone in my core family are sports fanatics and owing to their constant and impressive persuasion, I started to fall into the pool of sport-loving enthusiasts.

I spent a major chunk of my last weekend watching highlights and live snippets of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Firstly, I was thrilled to see the attention and appreciation all these non-glamorous sports are receiving in the last 3-4 years. I had never imagined that any sport other than cricket can stand tall in our country. It is invigorating to see men and women from small towns competing on the international level and proudly holding the tri-colour upon winning the medals. The thought that constantly ran through my mind while watching these games was the idea of choosing an unusual and non-glamorous sport by so many talented Indian athletes and pursuing it relentlessly without the surety of any outcome.

One event that particularly had an impact on me was the 3000m steeplechase and the silver won by Indian athlete Avinash Sable. The last few seconds of his lap was equivalent to a gold medal.

Inspiration flows all around you and it can come to you in unexpected ways and times. This will stay with me for a long time. Also found an article elevating my experience in Times Of India today!
